2 0 0 1 Cleveland County, OK Habitat for Humanity Partnership - Shaklee Cares has partnered with Habitat for Humanity to build the first Shaklee Cares home for a tornado victim. The home is being constructed with the help of a team of volunteers consisting of Shaklee employees and the field. With a scheduled completion date in June, the home will be presented to its future owner as a Father's Day gift. » read more 2 0 0 0 Tarboro, NC School Rebuilding - In May 2000, Shaklee Cares donated $20,000 to the Edgecombe County Schools in North Carolina to help rebuild two elementary schools destroyed by Hurricane Floyd. Los Alamos, NM Firestorm - On May 4, 2000 the biggest fire in New Mexico history burned near Los Alamos, New Mexico and surrounding communities. Approximately 30 local Shaklee volunteers teamed up with the American Red Cross to assemble the relief packages for families and individuals, totaling about $34,000. In December, the Northern New Mexico Interfaith Recovery Network held a holiday celebration for the families and individuals of the fires. Shaklee Cares donated a gift of $10,000, which enabled Interfaith to put a holiday gift bag together for those families whose homes were destroyed by the blaze. » read more Union, MO Floods - A stalled weather system dumped fourteen inches of rain fell on Eastern Missouri on May 7, 2000 creating floods and taking the lives of two people. More than 400 homes were flooded. Shaklee Cares quickly responded by donating over $5,200 in Shaklee Cares Disaster Recovery Packages to the area. Camilla, GA Tornadoes - On Valentine's Day 2000, two separate tornadoes tore through the town of Camilla, GA. When the first twister hit shortly after midnight, most residents were asleep and were unable to adequately prepare for the onslaught. A team of Shaklee Cares volunteers distributed over $7,900 in Shaklee Cares Disaster Recovery Packages to the stricken residents of Camilla. Owensboro, KY Tornado - After preparing for a Y2K disaster that never happened, the residents of Owensboro, KY found themselves in the midst of a freak winter tornado on January 3rd, 2000. After the debris had settled, Shaklee Cares and a team of local volunteers helped distribute over $18,000 in Disaster Recovery Packages. 1 9 9 9 Hurricane Floyd - In mid September of 1999, Hurricane Floyd made landfall along the eastern United States and flooded thousands of homes and businesses while taking the lives of 49 people. Shaklee Cares donated over $80,000 in Disaster Packages to help with the massive cleanup. Oklahoma Tornadoes - In the early morning of May 1, 1999 massive tornadoes tore through Oklahoma and Kansas. Thousands of homes were destroyed and 41 people were killed in the fury of this F5 tempest. Shaklee Cares donated over $30,000 in cash and product to the Oklahoma areas hit heavily by the disastrous tornadoes. Cincinnati, OH Tornadoes - A furious F4 tornado struck the Cincinnati area killing four people and destroying hundreds of homes. Aided by the efforts of local Shaklee Independent Distributors, Shaklee Cares shipped over $8,000.00 in products to the damaged area Tennessee/Arkansas Tornadoes - Tornadoes slammed into Tennessee and Arkansas killing 8 people and destroying a multitude of home and business. Shaklee Cares with the help of local Sales Leaders donated over $17,000 in cash and products to the stricken area. 1 9 9 8 Wisconsin Floods - Flooding once again hit Wisconsin and Sales Leader and Shaklee Cares combined to provide assistance with over $24,000 in product to beleaguered residents. Florida Wildfires - Lightning created a disastrous inferno for Central Florida and Shaklee Cares provided $7,000 in funding to help weary firefighters battle the blaze. Northeastern U.S. Tornadoes - Over $11,000 in relief went to victims of an unusually severe tornado season. Sales Leaders helped organize relief efforts in New York and Pennsylvania. Midwest Tornadoes - Shaklee Cares and Sales Leaders brought over $35,000 in products and funding to victims of powerful tornadoes that swept several Midwestern states. Maine Ice Storms - Severe ice storms downed power lines and crippled communications, travel and utilities. Shaklee Cares, through local Sales Leaders, provided $15,500 in funding to help purchase electric generators among other necessary items. Elizabethton, TN Floods - Melting snow and torrential rain combined to create a flash flood that left seven dead in the Roan Mountain area of Tennessee. Shaklee Cares Sales Leaders and their volunteer team distributed over $27,000 in cash and product. Georgia/North Carolina Tornadoes - Tornadoes tore through the southeastern U.S. and Shaklee Cares Sales Leaders provided over $8,100 in Disaster Recovery Packages to beleaguered residents. 1 9 9 7 Ft. Collins, CO Floods - Flash flooding in Ft. Collins killed five people and left behind $100 million dollars in damages. Local Sales Leaders distributed over $4,600 in Disaster Recovery packages and $2,500 in aid to individuals in the stunned community. North Dakota/Minnesota Floods - A massive confluence of ice pack and rainfall swamped citizens residing along the Red River. Shaklee Cares responded with over $34,000 in Disaster Recovery packages and $13,000 to individuals. These donations were distributed through Team Leaders and their volunteers. Northern CA Floods - Nature's bounty proved to be destructive as record rainfall resulted in the flooding and destruction of over 1 billion dollars in property in the California Central Valley. Shaklee Cares Team Leaders coordinated the distribution of over $42,500 of Disaster Recovery packages to stricken victims while Shaklee Cares donated $3,000 to needy individuals. Ohio/Kentucky Floods - Six states declared emergency status when the Ohio River reached its highest level in three decades. Over $36,000 in Disaster Recovery packages were distributed to besieged residents through the volunteer efforts of local Shaklee Sales Leaders. 1 9 9 6 Southern CA Wildfires - High winds and arid weather conditions aided in a flash fire that whipped through San Diego county leaving behind homes destroyed and lives ruined. Shaklee Cares provided over $12,000 in cash and product donations. Hurricanes Fran and Gloria - As hurricane season tore through the Atlantic coast, Shaklee Sales Leaders assisted in bring relief with $39,000 in Disaster Packs as well as an additional $4,000 in individual funding. Alaska Fires - Devastating wildfires raced through the Anchorage area, forcing the evacuation of 1,500 homes. Shaklee Cares responded with over $6,000 in products for the stricken victims of the wildfire. Pacific Northwest Floods - Again flood waters devastated homes and businesses, this time in the Pacific Northwest. Shaklee Cares sent over $13,500 in product and cash to help in the recovery efforts. Pennsylvania Floods - Freak winter floods tore through western Pennsylvania and Shaklee Cares responded with over $22,000 in product and cash contributions to families struggling in the chilling aftermath. Shaklee Cares worked with local Shaklee distributors who once again volunteered to coordinate the distribution of products and identified families most in need of help. 1 9 9 5 Louisiana Floods - Shaklee Cares donated over $12,000 in products to the Mid-City Greens Project in New Orleans to aid in the clean up from this catastrophic flooding. Oklahoma City Bombing - Although not a natural disaster, this man-made tragedy compelled Shaklee Cares to respond with $3,000 in contributions to the Feed the Children. These funds were directed to three families with children who survived the bombing but will have long-term medical needs. Hurricane Opal - Hurricane Opal cut a destructive swath across central Florida and Shaklee Cares was able to donate over $60,000 in assistance to those in the wake of the hurricane. Four separate teams of local Shaklee distributors spearheaded the on-site distribution of "Family Disaster Recovery Packages" with cleaning products and food. Other Projects - Shaklee Cares provided over $9,000 in cash and products to other disaster sites ranging from the Texas Tornadoes of 1995, the California Floods of 1995, and the Wisconsin Train Disaster of 1996. p r e - 1 9 9 5 During the first two years of operation - Shaklee Cares responded swiftly to a number of devastating natural disasters with donations of over $127,000 in cash and products to victims of Hurricane Andrew, the Great Midwest Flood of 1993, the Northridge Earthquake in Southern California, and flooding in Georgia and Alabama.
The community of Valmeyer, Illinois was entirely destroyed during the flooding in the Midwest and had to be rebuilt on higher grounds. Shaklee Cares made a contribution of $20,000 for rebuilding of the community school. |
