May 2000 - Shaklee Cares donated over $45,000 to the city of Los Alamos New Mexico to help in the rebuilding of homes destroyed by the Cerro Grande fires in May. The fire burned over 47,000 acres, caused the evacuation of 18,000 residents and left 450 families homeless.

Shaklee Coordinator Elena Giacomin Dennis and Joe Dennis present a check to the Interfaith Recovery Network to help NM fire victims. In partnership with local Shaklee Independent Distributors, in the immediate aftermath of the fires Shaklee Cares provided over 500 Disaster Recovery Packages containing health products and cleaning supplies to residents devastated by the fires. Shaklee Cares' total inkind contribution was about $34,000. In December 2000, with the help of local Shaklee Business Leaders, Shaklee again rendered aid by donating $10,000 to provide holiday gift bags to affected families. The check was donated to the Interfaith Recovery Network at a community holiday celebration for fire victims on December 2, 2000.

Sibylle Whittam, President of the Board of Directors of Shaklee Cares described the philosophy of the organization: "To me, compassion and concern for others is what has always separated Shaklee from other organizations. I consider it an honor to represent those who have accomplished so much by caring for one another during difficult times."
