Raising funds and having fun!

Fundraising Suggestions and Ideas
Whatever event you are planning, whether it's a sports tournament, a special celebration or an annual picnic, here are some guidelines for making it a success:

Plan Ahead
Choose a date far enough in advance to allow time for promotion and information to be sent out to everyone and anyone who might attend.  Don't try to do everything yourself. Involve your entire group or work with a smaller group to help with the planning process as well as at the event itself. Each volunteer will bring special expertise and can be responsible for specific aspects of organizing, promoting and executing the event.

Check the Web Site at www.shakleecares.org
Look for contact names of people who may have done similar events. Call them for ideas or information.
Download information or material that might be useful to have at your event.

Order Materials
Contact Shaklee Cares via E-mail or call 925-924-2003 for materials such as annual reports, Shaklee Cares stickers, donor forms and/or envelopes and a short video update of recent Shaklee Cares activities.  Plan to use the video at your event and display information from the web site or the Shaklee Cares Annual Report. Ask for a quantity of extra annual reports to have on hand.

Contact Local Media
Notify local newspapers, radio and television if your event is open to the general public. Use the press release template attached. Add information and personalize it with specific details about your event.  Often there will be newspaper calendar listings of upcoming events where your event can be included. Be sure to call the newspapers to find out the lead time for submitting information to be listed.
Shortly before the event, if it is large enough and includes participants from throughout the community, send a media alert to invite coverage of the event itself. Follow-up with a press release to the local features editor that announces the results of the event including the funds raised, winning participants, and any other pertinent details of what actually took place.

Points to Remember
Stress that Shaklee Cares is a separate non-profit organization from Shaklee Corporation but receives support from Shaklee in terms of donation of administrative services such as printing, mailing, filing required reports, etc. These costs often average 20% or more of the budgets for non-profit organizations. Donors will be pleased to know that their donation to Shaklee Cares is going to those in need without a portion going to cover administrative costs.
Work to raise visibility for both Shaklee Cares and your Shaklee business by emphasizing each organization's commitment to community.
Send all donations to Shaklee Cares, 4747 Willow Road, Pleasanton, CA 94588.
 Have fun!
