Pleasanton, California - Shaklee Cares, a publicly supported charity that provides assistance in times of emergencies or natural disasters, is donating over 24 air purification units and 70,000 energy bars to the ongoing New York recovery and cleanup efforts resulting from the tragic events of September 11, 2001.

The air purification units, which were recently introduced by the AirSourceTM division of Shaklee Corporation, use patent-pending technology process to reduce microbial activity and neutralize floating particulates. Shaklee Cares decided to donate the units upon hearing of the adverse air conditions facing workers inside Ground Zero. Thousands of Carbo-Crunch® Energizing Snack Bars, a single-serving energy snack, are also being delivered to provide a pocket-sized boost of energy when needed.

The organization has also established a special "Shaklee Cares For America Fund" to collect donations from the general public as well as from Shaklee Corporation employees and its US base of over 500,000 independent distributors. So far, the fund has raised over $45,000 dollars that will be donated to the victims of the September 11 tragedy. In addition, the same Shaklee employees and distributors have donated over 220 gallons of blood to the American Red Cross.

"Shaklee Cares mission is to restore community health and help people rebuild their lives, and we are proud to be able to help in any way the heroic efforts of the New York City recovery workers and those who were directly affected by the events of September 11," said Sibylle Whittam, President of the Board of Directors of Shaklee Cares.

Shaklee Cares was established in 1992 in the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew, which devastated parts of Florida. It is committed to helping individuals and communities recover when natural disasters or emergencies strike. For more information, visit www.shakleecares.org.

Shaklee Cares' New Partnership

Pleasanton, California - Shaklee Cares, a publicly supported charity that provides assistance in times of emergencies or natural disasters, and Cleveland County Habitat for Humanity will work in concert to build a Shaklee Cares house for a tornado victim.

In the immediate aftermath of the series of tornadoes that hit the Sooner state and devastated thousands of homes in May of 1999, Shaklee Cares donated both products and cash to people whose lives were impacted by the worst storm system seen in nearly 50 years. This year, Shaklee Cares, with matching funds from America Online, is donating the cost of the construction of the first Shaklee Cares-sponsored Habitat for Humanity Home.

The project began on February 6, 2001, with a kick-off ceremony at Shaklee Corporation's Norman Manufacturing Facility. Work will continue on weekends, with Shaklee employees and local Shaklee Independent Distributors volunteering their labor, for the next four months. The house will be occupied by Paul Seiter who has already put in his "sweat equity" to qualify for Habitat's program. His daughter is expected to hand over the keys to Seiter on Father's Day.

"Shaklee Cares mission is to restore community health and help people rebuild their lives, and we are proud to be working with Habitat for Humanity on this wonderful project" said Sibylle Whittam, President of the Board of Directors of Shaklee Cares.

Last fall, Whittam met former President Jimmy Carter and informed him about Shaklee Cares and the work being done to help people and communities recover from natural disasters. Mr. Carter and his wife, Rosalyn, devote one week of every year to volunteering for a Habitat for Humanity Work Project. Founded by Millard and Linda Fuller in 1976, Habitat for Humanity International is an ecumenical, non-profit Christian housing ministry working to end poverty housing and homelessness around the world. Habitat has now established a Disaster Response Office to help build homes in the aftermath of natural disasters like hurricanes and tornadoes, and there appeared to be a natural opportunity for the two organizations to work together.
