How is Shaklee Corporation responding to the recent Hurricane devastation?

Hurricane Katrina has been called the worst natural disaster in United States history, an event with enormous consequences likely to be felt for many months into the future. Shaklee Corporation is eager to help the many whose lives are currently overwhelmed by this event, and we will also be looking for ways to respond that will be meaningful for the longer term recovery effort, as millions of our fellow Americans begin the process of rebuilding their homes and their lives.

Our relief efforts began immediately after the Hurricane, on August 29th, and Shaklee will continue to respond with additional relief programs and news as recovery continues. Now, with Hurricane Rita's devastation, we are working with relief efforts for both Hurricanes.

Here are the steps Shaklee has taken thus far to address the needs of those affected by this disaster, including our Shaklee Family Members and Business Leaders in the area:

  • We established the Shaklee Cares Hurricane Relief Packs which can be purchased for donation directly by Shaklee. Both Shaklee Members and non-Members may purchase one of three packs:
    • Clean-Up Pack (designed to help those who need to clean up) (#80530)
    • Personal Care Pack (designed for those in temporary shelters) (#80554)
    • Volunteer Pack (designed to support those on the front lines of disaster relief) (#80599)
  • The packs are orderable online for Members and are also available for non-Members to purchase by calling 1-800-SHAKLEE.
  • Shaklee Cares is also now accepting cash donations which will be distributed to those in need of financial assistance
  • Shaklee Corporation will match the first $100,000 in cash donations to victims of this disaster
  • Shaklee has suspended business requirements for our Business Leaders who have been affected by this event until further notice
  • Shaklee Cares will be accepting donations of PV from our Business Leaders who wish to contribute to affected Business Leaders
  • Shaklee has begun an outreach effort to all members of our Shaklee Family, to try to locate and assess how we can help those in Shaklee who have been impacted by this event

What is Shaklee Cares?
Shaklee Cares, originally established in 1992 in the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew, which devastated parts of Florida, is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing assistance to individuals, families and communities recovering from natural disasters. Since its inception in 1992, Shaklee Cares has donated more than $2.5 million in cash and products to those in need.

What is the Shaklee Cares Hurricane Relief Pack?
Our first step in responding to this tragic event was through Shaklee's philanthropic non-profit organization, Shaklee Cares. In the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Shaklee Cares responded by offering a special Hurricane Relief Pack available for Shaklee Members to purchase and donate through Shaklee Cares.

Both Shaklee Members and non-Members may purchase one of three packs that will be distributed through local Shaklee Cares volunteer teams.

  • Clean-Up Pack (designed to help those who need to clean up) (#80530)
  • Personal Care Pack (designed for those in temporary shelters) (#80554)
  • Volunteer Pack (designed to support those on the front lines of disaster relief) (#80599)
The packs are orderable online for Members and are also available for non-Members to purchase by calling 1-800-SHAKLEE.

How will the disaster survivors make use of the products in the current Hurricane Relief Pack?
In situations where people have taken refuge in shelters, schools, churches and other locations, maintenance of clean and sanitary conditions is critical to health. The first shipment of product will be donated to assist with clean-up for schools, churches, shelters and also to individuals whose homes and stores are still standing.

What additional disaster relief can be donated through Shaklee Cares?
Shaklee Family Members may now make cash donations (by check or money order) directly to Shaklee Cares, which will in turn be used to provide direct financial assistance to qualifying individuals and organizations. Shaklee Corporation will match the first $100,000 in cash donations received by Shaklee Cares for this relief effort. Importantly, Shaklee Cares will distribute 100% of cash contributions received, since Shaklee Corporation donates all of the administrative costs and services that operate Shaklee Cares.

( Please make check or money order payable to Shaklee Cares, 4747 Willow Road, Pleasanton, CA 94588 ).

Individuals and organizations in need of financial assistance as a result of the effects of the recent Hurricanes may apply for a Shaklee Cares Financial Grant ( Please contact shakleecares@shaklee.com for a grant application).

How else can I participate in the effort to provide relief to victims of the recent Hurricanes?
Shaklee Corporation and a network of Shaklee Field leaders are currently working to locate, contact and meet with our Shaklee Family Members in the affected region. Once we know what the needs are within this group, it is our goal to create a clearinghouse to connect these needs with the many offers of help that have come in from the Field. We are working on making an online bulletin board available that will make this possible, so please stay tuned for more information on this.

In addition, whether or not you are a Shaklee Family Member, you can help in any of these ways:
